John and Shelby Rayner

John and Shelby Rayner opened Onefire in 2007:

"After driving to Scottsdale for six years to practice yoga, we were thrilled to be able to open a Bikram Yoga studio in our own backyard. We kept our fingers crossed that other West Valley residents would find and embrace the practice. Thankfully, they did. And that has been the biggest joy of opening Onefire - the people. We have the best community! And the fact that we get to play a part and watch people becoming healthier and happier every day is a gift - our dream coming true."

Shelby graduated from Arizona State University with a degree in Business Economics. She worked in business sales for years when she stumbled upon what would quickly become her true passion - Bikram Yoga. Shelby took her first Bikram Yoga class in 2001 and knew that she would practice this yoga for the rest of her life. After the birth of her first daughter Shelby decided it was time to leave the corporate world and pursue her dream of becoming a Bikram Yoga teacher. She completed Bikram's Teacher Training in the Spring of 2005 and opened BYA with her husband in 2007. "Best job EVER! This yoga has changed my life and now I get to watch others transform their lives." Shelby has two daughters and a big black dog. She loves cooking, music, shopping and anything having to do with design. She can be easily bribed with a good cup of coffee and anything dark chocolate.
John grew up in Litchfield Park, AZ and graduated from The University of Arizona with a degree in Business Economics. John began farming with his family (four generations of cotton farmers) in 1991. John took his first Bikram Yoga class in 2001 and immediately connected with the practice. "You get out of this yoga exactly what you put into it. It's up to YOU!" He became certified to teach in the Spring of 2005 and went on to compete as a representative of Arizona in the National Yoga Asana Championship in 2006, 2007, 2008 and 2009 where he placed 5th in the nation. When John isn't stretching and sweating in the yoga room, he can be found sweating on the farm, on his mountain bike, hiking in the desert or poolside with his two daughters.

Kelly started practicing Bikram Yoga in January 2008 at 19 years old, after a close friend dragged her to a very early Sunday morning class. She quickly became addicted to the sense of accomplishment she felt laying in final savasana at the end of class. But what kept her coming back was the profound calming effect the yoga gave such a high-strung, stressed-out girl. The yoga has helped her find a sense of peace and "laid-back-ness," two things she had struggled finding a balance with for 19 years prior. More than four years later, she became a certified Bikram Yoga instructor in the Spring of 2011 in Los Angeles, and has been teaching at BYA since. Kelly graduated from Arizona State University in December 2010 with her degree in Journalism and Mass Communication, and has held positions at the Arizona Republic and Phoenix New Times. She has also had the opportunity to travel across Europe and study abroad in Spain. A second-generation Arizona native, Kelly loves to write, hike, travel, and is passionate about anything to do with food.
Heidi walked into her first Bikram Yoga class in 2007. She has since logged over 1400 classes. In her words, she “just doesn’t feel right” if she goes too long without getting into the hot room. Every class is challenging, but she always feels stronger, more aligned and more balanced after the workout. In 2010, Heidi joined the BYA staff and loves being a part of this community of yogis. In 2015 Heidi graduated from OHM Yoga School. Those who come into the studio may have also noticed that Heidi works as a massage therapist. She moved her massage practice to BYA when we relocated and we love having her here as our in-house therapist. She has been licensed massage therapist since 1998 and offers several different types of massage. She feels that yoga and massage are wonderful complements to each other. When she isn’t here in the studio, she spends time with her family - her husband and her two teenage boys and daughter, when she’s home visiting from college.
Lorraine grew up in Upstate NY. She lived in S.California for many years before moving to Arizona in 2004. Lorraine has been an Accountant for the past 30+ years. In Feb 2011 a friend invited her to a free class at BYA and she immediately fell in love with the practice. She dreamed of becoming a teacher. That dream became a reality in the Spring of 2015 when Lorraine went to Phuket Thailand for 9 weeks to be trained by Bikram Choudhury himself. Lorraine is passionate about teaching. "I love being a part of the positive impact people are making in their lives. Every student is an inspiration to me. Everyone has a reason as to why they are in the room." Lorraine is a mother 2 boys and grandmother to her granddaughter Abby.
Lisa grew up in Northern California and moved to Arizona in 2005. She graduated from ASU in 2009 with her degree in Dance Performance. She was introduced to Bikram Yoga in 2010 and felt it was the perfect compliment to her dance career. She was hooked after her first class. Lisa attended Inferno Hot Pilates teacher training in March 2016 and Level 2 IHP training later that same year, and has been teaching IHP classes since March 2016. She loves the combination of Yoga and Pilates and feels such a sense of fulfillment when teaching as she helps others achieve their goals.
When she isn't at the studio, Lisa loves to spend time with her husband and 3 young children, doing anything outdoors, and of course, dancing.
Judith started practicing Bikram Yoga in January 2012 after a doctor recommended it would be good to alleviate stress. Judith quickly experienced the results physically and mentally. After 3 years of a consistent practice she decided to become a certified Hot Yoga Teacher and graduated from the Sterling Hot Yoga Teacher Training in the Summer of 2015. Judith graduated from Arizona State University in 2010 with a degree in Elementary Education. After teaching middle school science she returned to school receiving her Masters in Educational Technology from Grand Canyon University in Spring 2013. Judith continues teaching students in the middle school classroom and adults in the hot room. When she is not teaching you can find her spending time with family, hiking or in California!
Stefi graduated from the University of California, Davis where she participated on the swim team and received her Bachelor’s Degree in Agricultural and Managerial Economics. She worked in the banking industry for years before her children were born. Stefi started taking Bikram Yoga when the studio opened in 2007 and hasn’t stopped. “I love how you get incredible stretching, cardiovascular workout, and strength training- the facial, massage, and detox are an extra bonus!” Stefi graduated from OHM School in 2015 and attended the Inferno Hot Pilates Teacher Training in 2016 and has been teaching all of our classes since. In addition to spending time with her husband and four teenage daughters, Stefi loves any excuse to be outside and especially enjoys water sports.
